OUR STORY
Óptica Miramon: A Legacy of 165 Years of Precision and Vision

Born in the heart of Lisbon in 1860, the history of Óptica Miramon is a narrative of evolution, resilience, and technical excellence, spanning over a century and a half.

The Foundation: Casa Miramon (1860)
The company was established by a distinguished family of merchants named Miramon, of French origin. Initially named “Casa Miramon”, it focused on the importation of high-quality precision instruments (for engineers, doctors, and schools).

Transition and Resilience (1916 - 1956)
In 1916, the company moved to its current address, Rua da Prata, 269-271, concentrating its activity on optics and changing its name to "Miramon – Oculista".
However, in 1956, due to economic difficulties, the company was restructured. New partners joined the share capital, and the name was changed to the current "Óptica Miramon, Lda.", ensuring its survival and continuity.

The Legacy and Pioneering Spirit of Mr. Luís Miramon
The last family member to manage the business was Mr. Luís Miramon. His dedication was not limited to optics:
Pioneering in Optics: According to testimonies from long-standing clients, Mr. Miramon was the pioneer in Portugal in adapting rigid contact lenses and introducing progressive lenses. His rigor was absolute: he would not allow any client to leave the store until he had personally verified the perfect visual adaptation.
Pioneering in Sport: Beyond optics, Mr. Luís Miramon was a pioneer of Rugby in Portugal, serving as a player, referee, and coach, and even becoming the National Selector in the 1960s.

The Continuity of Excellence
In 2002, Mr. Luís Miramon sold his shares to the Excellent Óptica group, which committed to maintaining the standards of excellence, technical rigor, and the centennial tradition of Óptica Miramon.
Today, Óptica Miramon is a symbol of resilience and tradition, providing a superior quality service at the same centennial location.
